Will of Shadrack Lively, Albemarle County, Virginia
May 10, 1864


In the name of God Amen: I, Shadrack Lively of the County of Albemarle in the state of Virginia, being infirm in bodily health, but of sound mind, memory and understanding do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, to wit: First, I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the ground to be decently buried at the discretion of my family, and after my funeral charges and other of my last debts are paid, I give & bequeath as follows--

Item--I give and bequeath unto my wife Rachel T. Lively, my farm on which I reside with all the stock, implements, household & kitchen furniture, and whatsoever else may be pertaining thereto. . .

Item--I give and bequeath unto my wife Rachel Lively all the negroes that I inherited from my father's estate, with their increase. And I also give unto her, my negro man Jasper. These negroes to be hers without restriction or conditions.

Item-- I give and bequeath unto my wife's nephew, Jno. W. Bronham and her niece, Rachel T. Bronham all the residue of my negroes with their increase to be equally divided between them, share and share alike.

Item-- I give and bequeath unto my wife Rachel T. Lively the residue of my Estate of every description not specified in the foregoing requests. And lastly, I do hereby revoke all Wills by me heretofore made, and do hereby publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I do hereto set my hand and affix my seal on this Tenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty four.
