NAACP Attorney Lawson Comments on Plans to Integrate SW VA Counties
|
|
NAACP attorney Reuben Lawson of Roanoke expressed his hope that counties in Southwest
Virginia would integrate without legal action but confirmed his intention to file suit on
behalf of 12 black students attempting to integrate an unnamed county's schools. Many
suspected Lawson's remarks were aimed at Pulaski County, but he refused to comment on
which county his clients were focused on. He said members of the NAACP legal staff are
awaiting action on a long-range school program by the special session of the General
Assembly before taking their next step.
