John PattersonJohn Patterson was a television reporter for WDBJ-7 in Roanoke, Virginia. He was awarded a prestigious fellowship at Columbia School of Journalism in 1957--the CBS Foundation News and Public Affairs fellowship. Patterson joined WDBJ in 1953 after working as a journalist for WAYB in Waynesboro and WTAR and WTAR-TV in Norfolk. He was graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1947 and Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in 1949. Patterson served in the U. S. Army World War II with the 100th Division in France in 1944. Patterson's reporting at WDBJ on the civil rights issue conformed to the high standards of CBS News national news. He strove for balance, used courtesy titles for all interviews, and asked direct, penetrating questions. |
