The Woodfolk Family Cemetery illustrates how quickly the landscape changes after the sale of property. Presumably the Woodfolk Family once owned land adjacent to the cemetery. Today, the cemetery lies behind a business-park, behind a dumpster and a row of cedar trees. It remains untouched, minus massive tree fall from a recent storm. The trees did not damage the stones, but they did obscure large parts of the cemetery, making it difficult to locate all of the extant stones. On a recent visit (March 2007), we located 25 stones and two depressions. If many hours were put into removing tree fall and leaves, it would probably be possible to locate a dozen (or more) depressions and other metal markers that are currently buried.

Our recent survey of the cemetery revealed three legible gravestones: the Rev. Tinsley Woodfolk, his wife, Letitia Allen, and Rosa L. Woodfolk. Death certificate records list over 40 Woodfolks buried within Albemarle County/City of Charlottesville. Most likely, some of these individuals are buried here, under unmarked graves. A fourth grave contains the burial of Frank Holmes. It is not clear how he is the related to the Woodfolks. As an aside, Holmes Avenue (off Park Street) may be named after this family. More research remains to determine where the Woodfolk homestead was located and how many graves lie within the cemetery.
