White Female Students Talk About Integration at Lane High, Private Education, and
Postsecondary Options
|
|
Several Lane High School white female students asked the governor to ignore the
petition that had circulated among Lane High School students asking for open schools
even if integrated. According to one student, the majority of Lane students supported
the governor and the enforcement of state laws to keep school segregated. These students
were enrolled in the private segregated academy just forming in Charlottesville and were
concerned about their prospects for admission to private colleges.
