My dear Mother,

Arrived all safe and sound. Train was forty-five minutes late and we missed our train in Richmond and had to wait until noon. I went out to the capitol and confederate monuments. We arrived in Hampton 2:15 in a fast train. I saw Rev. D. P. Hubbard.

(page 2)

He was coming from out in Amherst County or Lynchburg.

Well when I received got here I only had $17.33 in Treasurer and I paid $8 cash. My railroad cost me 3.34 to Richmond & 3.20 to Hampton. And I loaned Lavon Johnson 2 dollars to pay his entrance fee.

Had a good night sleep 22 now Wednesday I am going to
