Dear Mrs Yancey

You certainly have my sympathies in this your sad hour of bereavement. there is no sting could have pierced your heart more keenly than the death of your dear husband I do appreciate your notifying us of your deceased husband. I know it must be hard but the good Lord will take care of you, and comfort you in this your saddest hour of bereavement.

(page 2)

I have lost mother, devoted sister but I know none can be so keenly felt as that of a husband or a child. Accept this little token as it was so I could not put a flower upon, his casket. We will certainly miss him it was sunshine whenever he came around us and I never met a stranger I liked better and I always threw my door wide open to him whenever he wanted to come to the city as my husband and I had formed an attachment to him for

his loyalty and remaining the same from the time he came into our midst. I notified Rev. James the next day I received the Special that night & sent Mr. James word in a written statement by Mr. Jenkins so it would be official notice to him to see that he forward you the blanks in time so the Dr will have time to fill it out & you see that the Dr fills out every blank space before you send it in & put the seal of your Fold on the secretaries blank also Dr. blank so that there will be no sending it back & forth delaying time do everything must be in

correct form and in office before the last day in the month. G. Shepherd likes to have some excuse or flaw in them sometime so as to delay payment. because when they are all correct he will be compelled to pay them & not pass them over see that his age is on policy if not on there put it on his age at that time. Some policies were made from old St. Luke policies without age. also see that your name is on & no children as you would only get $25. if children is on there & go to expense to qualify & give bond. I just tell you these things in case that those might be the flaws.

(page 5)

I said what I did about the children because they are under age and you have got to be responsible for them any how so in case the policy have children on it rub it off to save expense and bond giving you need it all because my foster mother was sick nearly four years & I have been constantly paying out ever since she died. Write to me some times. I will write & let Mary know she is gone for the month.

(page 6)

Some one would have come but the chances for making the funeral would have been doubtful. I must close with love from the entire family also sympathy from many of the Shepherds.

I remain

Yours devotedly
Barbara Jenkins
