My dear Mother,

I received your letter and money and was very glad to hear from you. I am well and truly hope you and May, Benny and Nora are the same.

I have spent some of my money for various things since I cannot get the suit of clothes so let me know before St. must I get shoes

for Easter as I had hoped to get the suit. Yes Mother it is time for short sleeve summer under wear and that is the kind I want. Is that couple thats going to be married Gussie and Harry? When does school close? Well we are going down to Fort Monroe Saturday at 6:45 and stay until 12 P.M. I am getting along very well in my studies and I shall be glad too when school closes. Mother its impossible for me to get a suit of clothes until spring or School closes as I dont want a cheap suit

(page 3)

Why doesn't Aunt Joe answer my letter? This uniform is come Hot now I mean and I may get some underwear on my account. How are all the peopl in Esmont now. Think of me when I go down on the Range at Fortress Monroe out 6:45 because it is a long walk and some of the boys are wanting Heavier meals so you know we will have to spend our money at the restaurant and then that Gun [missing text] [missing text] hard. And in rapid firing you have to fire 10 shots a minute. Mother I dont know where I want to go this summer all I

know I am not coming home for two years or more ha ha and when I come I will have moustasche and smoking cigars.

Give my love to May and Benny and Nora and all of the people.

Hoping to hear from you before sat. and telling me what to do about shoes as I need them.

I am your loving son
Roger
