Revival of Know-Nothingism

Summary: Very sarcastic article about a conversation between black men, one of whom complains about the possibility of Africans being imported into Virginia. He complains that they are foreign and unnaturalized, and thus he refuses to associate with them. Conversation is written in dialect.

Summary: The Spectator is suspicious of John Letcher because he once proposed that the state be split so that slavery could be abolished in Western Virginia. While Letcher is "sound on the matter of slavery now," the paper worries that he might "still entertain a little of the old grudge against one portion of the state."
