Summary: Review of an address given by Spencer Banks before New York Merchants exchange. Banks argues that the slaveholding states produce more "material wealth" than the nonslaveholding stattes, and should be entitles to difrect the government. SS says his figures are absurd. Praises Ruggles for challenging Banks and defending the South.

Excerpt: So long as the South has such champions in the North we need not despair of the Union.
