Summary: The Vindicator calls the Virginia Legislature's report on the Southern conference "absurd." The General Assembly is not prepared to follow South Carolina. The South needs to unite in order to survive.

Speaker Pennington--A Melting Incident--Meltingly Told
(Column 2)

Summary: The Vindicator criticizes the Staunton Spectator for lauding the election of a "Black Republican" to Speaker of the House of Representatives. Even though the new speaker, Mr. Pennington, is a former friend of Henry Clay, the Vindicator still rejects his election because the Republican party is dedicated to the "final and speedy overthrow of Southern rights."

The Concert.

Want of time prevented our noticing in our last, the splendid vocal and instrumental entertainment given by the Musical Association under the superintendence of Prof. Turner and Mr. Alby on Thursday night of last week. We feel confident in saying that the large audience in attendance were highly gratified with the entertainment, and will be ever ready to favor the performers with the presence when called upon.
