Decries the lack of suitable housing in Chambersburg as holding back the town's economic growth. Calls upon monied men of the town to finance new construction.

Chambersburg is experiencing a brick building boom. John Reasoner, who just sold his business to Mr. Wanamaker of Philadelphia, made and sold almost one million bricks in the past year and a half. John Senseny, Benjamin Uglow, John Hunesecker and Mr. Root also have brickyards. The article includes a list of the people who are building brick houses in Chambersburg.

The editors have published a letter written by a sequestrator appointed to collect assets of the failed Fire and Marine Insurance Co.; the letter requests the balance of a payment, but the editors argue that an assessment of losses by the company due to fire must be made first, and so they urge citizens to not pay yet.

Mr. Ditman and Mr. Ott, who were not insured, have rebuilt their property more quickly after the recent fire than has Mr. Deckelmayer, who was insured. The paper criticizes insurance companies for not acting promptly.
