Mr. John Light, a "young, daring, and skillful
Aeronaut" from Lebanon, Pennsylvania, "made his third ascension in his splendid Balloon
'Eclipse,' from the Public Square, in this borough." A full description of the inflation and

Advertisement: "Mr. Solenberger has fitted out a
safe and elegant boat in
which parties can enjoy a delightful boat excursion on the Conococheague. His terms are very
reasonable and the ride is certainly a safe and pleasant one, infinitely more agreeable and

Morrison's Grand
Pan-tec-na-thec-a is coming to Franklin Hall for four nights. "This Great
Exhibition consists of five splendid Panoramas, painted in a new and novel
style with Dioramic effect on a scale of magnificence never before
attempted." Those who attend the exhibit "are guaranteed two hours of
amazement, wonderment, and delight."

A musical association, the "Chambersburg Orchestra," has been formed. "The
'Orchestra' is composed of five members, and each
performer is a perfect master of the instrument on which he plays."

The Mechanics' Brass Band accompanied the Chambers Artillery
during the recent encampment at Waynesboro. "The Military were highly delighted with the
deportment of the Band. They were ready and willing to play at any times desired--either to
serenade the citizens or furnish music for the military."

Mr. J. K. Shryock delivered a lecture before the
citizens of Hagerstown recently. "We are glad to find
his talents and social qualities as highly appreciated abroad as they are at home."

The superintendent of the Franklin Railroad allowed students in the advanced
classes at Dr. Reeves' Female Seminary to "take a jaunt" in a passenger car over the finished
portion of the railroad. Description of picnic near Heagy's woods. Editors' note: "We were much
pleased with the lady-like deportment of the pupils under care of Mr. Reeves. There were no
romps or tom boys in the crowd which speaks well for the discipline introduced in this institution.

"Wire Walking."
"Prof. Price performed the hazardous feat of walking a wire stretched from
the roof of Fisher's Hotel to the top of the building occupied by Mr. Heyser as a Drug Store, the
distance being about one hundred and fifty feet. The feat was performed in a very clever manner,
was everything promised, and gave entire satisfaction to witness the daring and interesting
exhibition."
