Virginia Gazette (Purdie & Dixon),

PETERSBURG, April 21, 1773. RUN away, last Night, from the Subscriber, two Slaves, namely: A Negro Fellow named FORTUNE, about six Feet high, slim made, has a thin Nose for one so black as he is, and appears to be about forty Years of Age; he took with him sundry Wearing Apparel, particularly a Pair of Buckskin Breeches almost new, a Thickset Coat, a brown Sailor's Jacket, a red great Coat, a fine Hat, pretty much worn, with a large Brim, and commonly has it cocked up, wears a red Worsted Cap in common, and sometimes a Silk one. Also a Wench named AMINTA, appears to be about thirty Years of Age, short and well made, has much the Look of an Indian, and is so, her Mother having been brought from the Spanish Main to Rhode Island, has long black Hair, which she wears in her Neck, and took with her a black Quilt, a red Flannel Petticoat, a dark Ground Calico Gown, a blue and white one, and an old light coloured Stuff ditto, a red Cardinal, a black Bonnet, and several other Things. I lately had them of Captain John Atkinson, and as they were brought from Rhode Island, it is probable they will endeavour to get there again, as they pretend to Freedom. I request it as as Favour of all Masters of Vessels not to harbour or entertain them, as it will probably be attended with bad Consequences. I will give a Reward of THREE POUNDS if they are taken fifty Miles from home and secured so the I may get them again, and THIRTY SHILLINGS if within that Distance. WILLIAM BRADLEY.
