| A colloquium consisting of approximately 20 U.Va. faculty and graduate students from a wide range of disciplines convened ten times through the course of the academic year 2001-2002. Members of the colloquium discussed the exploration, settlement, and development of the American West. This colloquium provided U.Va. scholars the relatively unusual opportunities to both engage members of other departments within the academic community and to consider a common theme from a range of disciplinary perspectives. The colloquium also served as important intellectual preparation for the team-taught, interdisciplinary, introductory-level undergraduate course, ANTH/HIUS 229: American Wests, offered during the fall 2002 and fall 2003 semesters. |
