The Geography of Slavery

Norfolk Herald (Willett and O'Connor),
Norfolk, June 12, 1798.

Run away. From the subscriber living in Charles City County, a negro man named NED about 5 feet 10 inches high, strait made, very black, with a smooth face and smiling countenance. The said fellow for some time past has been employed by some gentlemen on the Bay Shore in fishing and has obtained a pass in which he calls himself Will Scott, and is now lurking in or near the Borough of Norfolk. I forwarn all masters of vessels from taking him out of this State, at their peril. I will give a reward of TEN DOLLARS to any person that will secure him in any jail so that I get him again, or TWENTY Dollars if brought to me in Charles City. EDWARD FINCH. June 12.
