The Geography of Slavery

RANAWAY from the subscriber, living in Caroline county, near Back-Church A Negro man named Charles: of a yellowish complexion, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, well made, is a tolerable good carpenter, and a very good Sawyer, and can read midling well; it is probable he may have got a pass.--Had on when he went away, a pair of black velvet breeches, red striped jacket, brown linen shirt, new hat with a midling deep crown, besides many other clothes--I will give EIGHT DOLLARS to any person who will deliver him to me, or secure him in any gaol so that I get him again. All masters of vessels and others are forbid harbouring said slave at their peril. TAVERNOR WISDOM. June 25th, 1793.
