The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette and Richmond and Manchester Advertiser (Pleasants),
Richmond, June 10, 1793.

Fifteen Dollars Reward. ABSCONDED on Saturday last, LEWIS, a bright mulatto boy, about sixteen years of age, 5 feet three or four inches high, stout made, his hair inclinable to grow long; had on when he went away a pair of corded overalls, and a short coat of the same. He was late the property of Mr. George Wyatt, of King & Queen county, of whom I purchased him in 1789, and it is likely he is gone thence, where he has a mother.--LEWIS can shave and comb tolerably well, and knows partly the duties of an house servant. He may endeavour to pass as free. I will give the above reward to any person who will apprehend and deliver him to the subscriber, in Richmond; or a satisfactory reward for him to be lodged in any jail within this commonwealth, and all reasonable expences paid. ED B. LACY. Richmond, Monday, the 10th of June, 1793.
