The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette and General Advertiser (Davis),
Richmond, June 19, 1793.

RAN-AWAY from Dale Glebe, on the 11th instant, a NEGRO MAN, named CHARLES, about 40 years old, bald upon the crown of his head, has lost two of his toes off his left foot, and two upper foreteeth; he is by trade a shoemaker, was bred in Gloucester, and lived there the greatest part of his life, which makes it probable he will make for that county. Whoever detects him before he leaves Chesterfield, shall receive FOUR DOLLARS, which sum is also offered to any one who shall cause him to be confined in any other county, and give information thereof; and in case he is brought home, full compensation will be allowed in addition for time and expences. JAMES LARDENT, Overseer.
