STOP THE THIEF! A NEGRO MAN, who ran away from me, living near Burton's Ferry, on Roanoke river, Mecklenburg, Virginia, the 11th of April last, by the name of FRANK, about 28 or 29 years of age, five feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout and well made, speaks very plain, walks stright and pert, looks very grim, and is middling black, with thick lips, a scar over his left eye, a piece cut off his right ear and a scar on his left thumb by the cut of an axe, which renders it stiff. He had an iron collar round his neck when he went away, which I expect her will get off by some negro smith; he is a grand rogue; he stole and carried away with him the following articles, viz--A very fine draw looped gun, square about fourteen inches, a fine high crown hat, two fine Virginia cloath coats mixed with black, four waistcoats, one of them black velvet, one spotted velvet, the other two Virginia cloth, two fine linen shirts, one cravat, a pocket-book with several bonds and other accounts in it, and sundry other articles too tedious to mention. The said Frank was raised by William Cox, on James River. Cox sold him to Charles Irvin, Irvin sold him to Stephen Turner, from him he ran away to Mecklenburg and changed his name to WATT which I expect he will do again, and pass for a freeman, as he has done before. I will give FIVE POUNDS reward to any person that will bring him again (that is to say) three pounds for the negro, and forty shillings for the goods stolen. N. B. All Masters of vessels are forewarned from carrying him out of the country. May 5th, 1793. JAMES BILBO.
