The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette and General Advertiser (Davis),
Richmond, February 13, 1793.

RAN-AWAY from the subscriber, early this morning, a likely young Negro fellow, named JOHNY, he is under 20 years of age, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, straight made, and very artful; has lost one of his front teeth, and has a swell'd shin, occasioned by the kick of a horse. Had on a suit of blue half-thicks, and carried with him a pale blue sagathy coat, with other cloathing. I am informed he has a mother in the West Indies, where he may attempt to get. All masters of vessels and others are forewarned from carrying him out of the state. Whoever will deliver the said Negro to me, or secure him in any jail, so that I get him again, shall be handsomely rewarded for their trouble. BRETT RANDOLPH. Fighting-Creek, Powhatan County, Feb, 11, 1793.
