The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette and General Advertiser (Davis),
Richmond, January 16, 1793.

RAN AWAY from the subscriber in New-Kent county, about the 15 Oct. last, a likely negro man, named BEN, about thirty years old, five feet ten or eleven inches high, yellow complexion, his hair grows low in his forehead; he walks with his toes very much in, he has a large scare [sic] on the small of his back, and I suspect that he got a free pass, and badly wrote. I will give Eight Dollars Reward to any person that will deliver the said negro to me, or confine him in jail, so that I get him again. RICHARD APPERSON LONG. January 8, 1793.
