The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette or American Advertiser (Hayes),
Richmond, April 16, 1785.

Open his mouth and look in! RUN away from the Subscriber living at Hooe's ferry, King George County, on the 24th day of March, a small negro man Slave, named DAVY, he is knock kneed, thin lean visage, his teeth much decayed by the Venereal disease, with an entire loss of the palate of his mouth, which occasions him to snuffle to such a degree, that 'tis difficult to understand what he says; he was apprehended and taken at Chizsom's Ordinary, in Spotsylvania County, by a Benjamin Head, from whom he escaped. Whoever delivers the said Slave to me, or secures him in gaol so that I get him again, shall receive a reward of FIVE GUINEAS, and reasonable charges, paid by GERARD HOOE.
