The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette or American Advertiser (Hayes),
Richmond, December 4, 1784.

WILLIAMSBURG, Nov. 17, 1784. A GENEROUS reward will be given any person, who will deliver to me (or secure in such manner that I get him) a mulatto slave named JOSEPH BARROUR, who went from Mr. Ludwell Grymes, in Orange, about the 10th of October last; about 22 years old, likely, near 6 feet high, spare, and erect, wore half leg boots, carried two coats with him, one short, and of blue plains; the other long, and of mixed ganes; he is a pretty good shoemaker, and being sensible, will probably attempt to pass as a freeman. WALKER MAURY.
