CITY OF RICHMOND, October 22, 1784. TEN POUNDS REWARD. RAN away, on the morning of Thursday the 21st instant, HUGH PATTERSON and DANIEL DUMPHY, both house carpenters, and indented servants. Patterson is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, straight made, smooth faced, black hair, utters [sic] badly; had on, when he went off, a three cocked hat, brown coat and jacket with white buttons, buckskin breeches, and white stockings. Dumphy is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, sandy hair, red beard, pock-pitted, high shouldered, ill limbed, and speaks with the old Irish accent; had on, when he went off, a round hat, a sailor's blue upper jacket with black horn buttons, a printed linen waiscoat, corduroy breeches, and white stockings. I will pay Twenty Dollars for the apprehending and securing said Patterson and Dumphy, so as I get them again, or Ten Pounds for delivering them at this place; one half the sums will be paid for any one of them on the above conditions.
