The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette or American Advertiser (Hayes),
Richmond, January 4, 1783.

December 9, 1782. CAME to my plantation in Nansemond, some time ago, a Negro Woman, about twenty-five years of age, who says her name is SALLY; she is very black, and has nothing remarkable about her person except a scar in one of her cheeks, and another on her breast; she is about the middle stature. I am informed that she once belonged to Mr. John Edloe, of Charles City, and that she is now the property of a Mr. Gee, of North-Carolina. The owner may have her on proving property and paying charges. ANNE WOODROP.
