The Geography of Slavery

Philadelphia, Feb 20, 1780. THE following named slaves were taken from on board the Cornwallis British galley, in December last, on her voyage from Virginia to Charleston, by Captain Matthew Lawler of the privateer brigantine Ariel, belonging to Philadelphia, and sold in Porto Rico, where the privateer was drove by stress of weather, viz. Dick said he was the property of Henry Jenkins of James river near Hampton. JOE said he was the property of JOHN COOPER of Nansemond. ANDREW said he was the property of JACOB HUNTER in Princess Anne county, CEASER said he was the property of WELLS COOPER of Nansemond. THOMAS CARY do. do. PETER said he was the property of FRANCIS LEE in Portsmouth. HAMDEN, said he was the property of JOHN COOLEY in Hampton. The owners of said slaves, proving their property, and furnishing the subscribers with proper powers, will be intitled to receive their proprotions of the sales of said negroes. SAMUEL INGLIS, & Co.
