Williamsburg, June 20, 1777.

COMMITTED to the jail of Amherst county, a negro fellow named JEM, about 17 years old, who says he belongs to Alexander Baine of Chesterfield county. When taken up, he had in his custody, a chestnut sorrel horse about 10 years old, 4 feet 6 or 7 inches high, but no brand perceivable; also an old saddle and bridle. The owner is desired to pay charges, and receive the negro and horse. WILLIAM POLLARD, jailer.
