The Geography of Slavery

Williamsburg, June 27, 1777.

NORTH CAROLINA, June 1, 1777. RUN away from the Subscriber, near the Merry Oaks, in Hanover County, a Negro Man named LEIW, of a black Complexion, about 5 Feet 7 or 8 Inches high; had on a white hunting Shirt, a Pair of Tow Breeches, and Shoes and Stockings, and took from me a Raccoon Hat Half worn, and a Pair of Saddle Bags. I purchased him of Mr. Turner Anderson of Louisa, and he formerly belonged to the Estate of Mr. John Todd Bickerton, deceased. I will give a Reward of SIXTEEN DOLLARS to any Person who will secure him, so that I get him again, or deliver him to Mr. John Wilson of Charlotte, who will pay the Reward. JOHN WILSON.
