Thirty DOLLARS reward TO any one that will take up a negro wench of mine and deliver her to mr. Hugh Walker, merchant in Urbanna, who will pay them on the delivery of the said wench, or TWENTY DOLLARS if taken up and put in jail, and intelligence given me thereof in the publick Virginia Gazette. She is a likely mulatto, named KATE, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, well made, and has a down look when she talks; she was hired to mr. Philip Moody of Williamsburg in 1774, to mr. Isaac Hobday of Gloucester in 1775, and to mr. John Thruston of Gloucester in 1776, from whence she made her elopement; and as she has a husband in Williamsburg, and I have frequently heard of her being harboured at the Capitol Landing, at mr. Philip Moody's, and at mr. James Taylor's in Williamsburg, I make no doubt but she is still harboured at the above mentioned places. I do hereby forewarn all persons from harbouring her at their peril, as they may depend I will put the laws in force; and I do still hereby offer a reward of SIX DOLLARS to any person that will inform me of any one that still harbours the said wench, or will inform mr. John Thruston of Gloucester, or mr. Hugh Walker, merchant at Urbanna, thereof. The above rewards all persons may depend will be punctually paid by mr. Hugh Walker, or the subscriber in Falmouth. EDWARD CARY, jun. N.B. She formerly belonged to mr. John Cary, deceased, of York county.
