The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette (Parks),
Williamsburg, From May 12 to May 19, 1738.

RAN away from the Subscriber, living in York County, on the 14th of this Instant May, a Servant Man, named Henry Watkins, a Welchman, of a middle Stature. He wears a dark-colour'd coarse Kersey Coat, a Pair of Leather Breeches, and Trowsers over them, a Cap, and a Felt Hat. He stole a small Grey Horse, well-gaited, but has no Brand. It is believ'd he went away in Company with one Thomas Powel, a free Man, of a larger Stature than the other. They have with them a Gun. Whoever brings the said Servant, and Horse, to me, or secures them, so that I may have them again, shall have Twenty Shillings Reward, besides what the Law allows, paid by William Hobday.
