The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette (Purdie & Dixon),
Williamsburg, December 21, 1769.

RUN away from the subscriber in Lancaster, a Virginia born Negro man named GEORGE, about 25 years old, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, a middling black, well made fellow, of a clear speech, plays on the fiddle, reads, can write a little, and is a very smart fellow. I imagine he has by some means got a pass. He was seen about the middle of November in Norfolk, and I suppose will make for Carolina. Whoever apprehends and contrives him to me shall have 10 l. reward, if taken in Virginia, if out thereof 15 l. RICHARD CHILTON.
