The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette (Purdie & Dixon),
Williamsburg, February 4, 1768.

COMMITTED to the Publick Gaol of Halifax, North Carolina, the 25th day of December last, a likely country born Negro man, of a yellowish complexion. He was committed by the name of JAMES, but since he came to gaol says his name is PETER, and that he belongs to Mr. James Johnston in Spotsylvania county, Virginia. The owner may have him on proving his property, and paying charges, of CHRISTOPHER DUDLEY.
