WILLIAMSBURG, January 1, 1766 [1767] RUN away from the subscriber, on the 25th of last month, a Negro man named Peter, who lately belonged to Edward Ambler, Esq; and who was not long since brought from North Carolina, where he had been about four years as a runaway, and where it is said he has a wife and children. He is about five feet ten inches high, lisps in his speech, and is slim. Had on a Newmarket bearskin coat, and blue and red waistcoats, long osnabrugs breeches, country made shoes, white stockings, and generally wore a cocked hat. He was born in one of the West Indies Islands, and can read tolerably well. Whoever takes up the said slave, and secures him so that his master may get him again, shall have, if taken in this colony THREE POUNDS reward, and if out of it FIVE POUNDS, paid by JAMES SOUTHALL. N.B. All masters of vessels are forewarned from carrying him off, at their peril.
