The Geography of Slavery

Virginia Gazette (Purdie & Dixon),
Williamsburg, December 11, 1766.

RUN away from the subscriber in Cumberland county, CHARLES, a likely Virginia born Negro fellow, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, 45 years old, of a dark complexion, and has a down look when surprised had on when he went away old cotton waistcoat and breeches, osnabrug shirt, a pair of old Virginia shoes and stockings, and farmers hat, with a white band and buckle; he went away the end of April last. Whoever apprehends the said slave, so that I get him, shall receive 4 l. reward, if taken in Virginia, and 8 l. out of the colony. SAMUEL FLOURNOY.
