Charlottesville Mon. Aug. 22d 1864

I had a letter from Jemmy to-day written on the 18th. He had been somewhat complaining, but was enjoying a dinner with Ch. & Lanty B. on whose whereabouts he had stumbled; and expected to rejoin his friends in a day or two -- I would be better satisfied if he were inhaling our pure mountain air, as he has not been accustomed to the lowlands -- but we may confidently entrust his Temporal welfare to Him whose mercy and grace have called him to a 'knowledge of the Truth as it is in Jesus' -- Jemmy is very reserved on the subject of his religious feelings -- and has only alluded to them since this passage I quoted, in acknowledging God's protection in the midst of danger -- but cousin [unclear: Su] (who is but just recovered from a long attack of coughs) heard that he is well as her Jemmy had connected himself with the Church.
