Governor Harrison Announces Prince Edward Free School Association
|
|
Governor Albertis Harrison announced the formation of the Prince Edward Free School
Association. The non-profit, privately funded group was intended to establish and operate
a system of three schools for Prince Edward County that would be open to both black and
white students. The Prince Edward County School Board agreed to provide the necessary
resources, such as buses, for one year or less while the funding was to come from private
associations and citizens. (New York Times, August 15, 1963)
