Delegates Charles Green and Sam Pope Comment on Perrow Commission Proposals
|
|
Delegate Charles Green of Bedford claimed that he could support some of the Perrow
Commission proposals until the Assembly was able to construct a more effective plan that
would reflect the thoughts of Bedford County and result in purely segregated schools. He
was convinced that due to the court system, the legislature was powerless to maintain
segregated schools at this juncture, and suggested that "[t]he only way we can have
massive resistance is for the masses to resist."
