Unidentified speaker from the Roanoke Democratic Party defined the organization's goals
to raise awareness of politics in the valley and increasing participation in the
Democratic party. Yet, the Democratic party was reluctant to accept the young coalition,
started in fall 1968, because of the assumption that it as formed only to promote one man
for Congress.
