Interview with F.A. Alexander
|
|
Rev. F.A. Alexander, publisher of the Roanoke Tribune and candidate for the upcoming
Roanoke City Council election, reacted to the entrance of a second black candidate, A.
Byron Smith. Alexander noted that Smith was respected and had a right to run for office,
but also expressed concern. Leaders in the black community had held meetings and
previously decided "to have one candidate and that we are going to put all of our efforts
toward the election of that candidate." (Also see Roanoke World News, April 8, 1966)
