The WDBJ coverage of the inauguration of J. Lindsay Almond featured an overview of the events of the previous year, including events in Little Rock, Arkansas, and the desegregation battles in Virginia. These events made this inauguration a national event. The "eyes of the nation," WDBJ claimed, were focused on Almond's inaugural speech and whether he would hold the line against integration. Supreme Court Justice Edward W. Hudgins swore Almond into office.
