Congressional Pat Jennings on Kennedy Assassination
|
|
Democratic Congressman Pat Jennings of the Ninth Congressional District of Bristol,
Virginia, expressed his shock at the assassination of President Kennedy. Jennings
considered Kennedy a personal friend. Kennedy campaigned for Jennings in Bristol and
hosted Jennings and his wife at a White House dinner. When asked by a WDBJ if Kennedy's
death would significantly change the direction of policy in Congress, Jennings said the
current policy agenda would not change much, and that incoming president Lyndon B.
Johnson planned to carry forward the civil and social rights programs initiated by
Kennedy.
