Peaceful Demonstration Threatened by Fire Hoses
|
|
Black residents peacefully walked up and down the steps of the Danville courthouse.
Onlookers included the police and Danville residents. While marchers continued their
procession, a Danville fire truck arrived. No fire hoses where turned on the marchers.
Instead, the marchers peacefully walked away from the courthouse. During the procession
away from the courthouse, an unidentified black man informed a WDBJ reporter that the
Danville Ministerial Alliance had planned to attend that evening's city council meeting
to protest the council's lack of support for the demands of black residents.
