Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee training sessions in Danville and elsewhere
included instruction on how to protect oneself when police used nightsticks, and hit and
kicked demonstrators. Those who went through training often tried to simulate the
experience of a demonstration and confrontation by singing and acting out the parts of
police and protestor.
