Gov. Almond's Last Address to GA - Comments About Transportation and Taxes
|
|
The General Assembly in 1958 established a network of highways covering 1,053 miles. By
1972 Virginia would have invested over $1 billion its highway system. Almond called this
"the greatest public works undertaking in Virginia history." On a more somber note,
Almond said the General Assembly had to do more to curb the large number of fatalities
on Virginia highways.
