Governor Lindsay Almond Press Conference
|

Governor J. Lindsay Almond, Jr. argued strongly for holding the line against
integration in public schools. Almond considered public opinion running strongly against
integration and he thought federal courts were assigning Virginia students to "a second
class citizenship." Almond strongly declared, "I have no concept of surrender in my
makeup as long I am convinced that we are right. And I am so convinced."
