Richard Nixon predicted that Democrats in Virginia and elsewhere would vote for
Republican candidates because the platform adopted by the Democratic Party at its Los
Angeles convention abandoned its party's principles. Nixon spoke at the Capitol Square
to a large crowd about the ways that the national parties had changed.
