Robert WhiteheadRobert Whitehead served in the House of Delegates representing Nelson and Amherst counties. He considered running for governor and for attorney general in 1957. When Howard Gilmer was forced out of the race for attorney general, Whitehead jumped in, only to step out a few weeks later under pressure from Democratic Party leaders. Known for his outspoken, maverick views, Whitehead stood as an independent Democrat and took every available opportunity to prick the Byrd Organization. |
