D.D. HarrellD. D. Harrell served as Superintendent of Greenbrier County schools in West Virginia. In the summer of 1954 Harrell and the Greenbrier County School Board approved a system-wide integration plan for the fall. Public pressure forced the school board to halt the integration plan and consider a more gradual approach. NAACP attorneys filed suit to require compliance with the Brown v. Board decision and federal judge Ben Moore ordered integration to proceed. On January 9, 1956, the Greenbrier County School Board passed a resolution to accept Judge Moore's desegregation plan. |
