Time-line of major events related to African-American History 1865-1898

North by South, National Endowment for the Humanities seminar web page : "This web page is the final product of a year long seminar researching the migration of African Americans from south to north. This seminar was the first part of a three year process to explore the reasoning, experiences, and contributions African Americans made to the greater community as they moved throughout the country." This site is a richresource for those interested in African American life around the Great Migration.

The Library of Congress' African American Perspectives Site: life between the mid nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Timelines and other resources are also available at this site.

"Jim Crow" Laws (Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site Interpretative Staff): this site lists some of the specific state laws associated with African Americans during the Jim Crow era.

Behind the Veil: "Behind the Veil: Documenting African American Life in the Jim Crow South represents an effort to correct historical misrepresentations of African American experiences during the period of legal segregation in the U.S. The project, a collaborative research effort, does this by encouraging scholars to listen to the voices of those who survived an era of profound racial oppression." Much of this site is still under construction.
